Argentinian club Independiente have confirmed the exit of 18-year-old attacking midfielder Ezequiel Barco amid reports of a record-breaking move to Atlanta United.

The rumour mill has been working over time for nearly two months whilst press throughout North and South America tipped Barco to join the Five Stripes.

Atlanta are reported to have paid $15 million for the Argentine Under-20 international, exceeding an MLS record that was set when Toronto FC spent $10 million on their midfield maestro; captain Michael Bradley.

Ezequiel Barco is hotly tipped to become one of the brightest footballing stars, following in the steps of Lionel Messi on his rise from South America. In his 51 appearances for Independiente, he found the net 8 times and assisted 5 goals.

The young attacking midfielder joins a team already full of midfield riches where competition for places will be fierce.

With last year's leading star Miguel Almiron expected to leave Atlanta in the next 12 months, swooping for Barco could be an extremely smart move for United who seem to be setting up a production line of young talent in the south.
