“We’re looking to add some players.” - The words of LA Galaxy coach Sigi Schmidt after his side stumbled to their worst ever MLS finish in 2017.

The Galaxy roster has undergone big changes in defence and midfield but a dangerous attacker was still not crossed off the club's shopping list, until this weekend.

It had long been reported that Columbus Crew's star frontman Ola Kamara had been looking to force a move away from Ohio, whilst LA Galaxy were rumoured to be unhappy with the performances of striker Gyasi Zardes.

A deal between the two clubs to swap the players seems a very good bit of business for LA Galaxy, but will Gyasi Zardes and $400,000 TAM assist the Crew in building on their playoff finish in 2017?

Kamara tucked away 35 goals in 65 appearances for Columbus Crew whilst also assisting in 8 goals. In contrast, Zardes scored just twice for Galaxy last season despite featuring in 24 matches.

Should Kamara score more than 12 goals in the 2018 season, LA Galaxy will owe Columbus a further $100,000 in TAM.

“We needed someone to score for us. And a forward is what we missed,” Galaxy president Chris Klein said. “We were able to fill that need with a player that has done it in our league better than almost anyone the past couple of years.

“He’s a key piece that we needed, he wanted to play for this club.”
