Columbus Crew Sign Artur Permanently for 2018

Columbus Crew can certainly be proud of their 2017 season. A strong showing in the MLS Cup Playoffs saw them eliminated only by the best team in MLS history and they'll be raring to go again in 2018.

They'll be bolstered by the permanent signing of defensive midfielder, Artur who was previously on loan at the black and gold from Sao Paulo FC.

The Brazilian made 24 appearances in the MLS regular season where he assisted 3 goals. He went on to play a role in a further 3 playoff games where he found the net against NYCFC.

Crew Coach Gregg Berhalter says there were highs and lows from Artur's first MLS season.
"Artur had a very typical first season as a real pro, he had great moments and he had moments where he was adapting to the speed and the physicality. But what became apparent is that he was progressing, and that’s what we saw.”

“I think it’s taking what he’s done and just doing it a little bit better,” Berhalter said of where Artur can improve. “He’s very good with his ground cover, he’s very good at winning balls. That determination to win the ball back is excellent. When he has the ball, the ability to drive with it, dribbling is great. I think he’s improved his shot. All of these things you want to keep developing.

“Hopefully we can help bring it out of him, but the thing I do know is (he has) the character and the mental make up to succeed.”

Columbus look to have made the first steps towards building their squad for 2018 but with a long pre-season still to come, could the revolving doors go round again?
