Seattle Sounders Appoint Preki As Assistant Coach
Predrag Radosavljević, otherwise known simply as "Preki", will join the Seattle Sounders coaching staff as Assistant to Brian Schmetzer.
Preki first joined MLS in 1996 when he turned out for Kansas City Wizards. He went on to win two MVP and Golden Boot awards over 145 appearances for Kansas, he scored 50 goals.
Preki later joined Chivas USA as an assistant coach in 2006 before eventually being promoted to head coach a year later. His success in 2007 led him to the honour of MLS Coach of the Year.
He is currently the all-time points leader in Major League Soccer history, was inducted in to Major League Soccer’s All-Time Best XI in 2005, and into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2010.
Adding one of the most decorated MLS players in history to the Seattle coaching staff is something Vice President of Soccer is satisfied with. “We are happy to add Preki to our staff as a guy with extensive experience as both a player and a coach,” said Chris Henderson. “It also helps that he has longstanding friendships with several members of our staff and management. He has a winning mentality that he proved as a player and as a coach, and we think he’ll be able to add value to our team.”
The man himself says he's excited to be home. “I’m excited to be back in Major League Soccer,” Preki said. “My family is from here. My first steps on this continent were here. I was in Tacoma with the Tacoma Stars, and I’ve always had great memories of this place. It’s a pretty easy move for me.”
Seattle face a season of redemption after losing to Toronto FC in the MLS Cup Final last December.
